i have built two different dongles, burned 2 different pics (burned each a few times), tried 2 different computers: 1) celeron 450mHz winXP 2) pentium II 350mHz win98 - with no success.

i'm trying to make the uart version without isolation.

the dimmer i'm trying to control (leprecon vx2400) indicates incoming dmx signal, but the data doesn't appear to be getting tranferred. i built a little two-led tester, and the leds blink in response to changing the refresh rate, so i guess that's something. but all the other tests i do = nothing.

it's really a hard thing to debug - not sure whether it's a wiring issue (though i've checked it all multiple times) or a pic issue, or a bad rs485 chip, or the computers i'm using, or ..... ?

i'm not sure what to try regarding timing loops in the testing software - what values should i be trying here?

it's a really difficult thing to give up on and move on ... i've spent a week on this and it's driving me kinda nuts. i guess i understand now why the real dmx controllers cost as much as a car!

i will try a few more things and report back.

all best,
b

Re: frustration
Hello:

Sorry for the delay.

Did you get any dmx data out from the interface using Masterpeace? Did you try all the parallel ports?

I will compile a manolator beta version and send you as soon as I can.

consider to buy a cheap opendmx enttec interface if you can not solve your problems. i got 3 of them and as they are usb are faster and with more channels.

cheers.

Re: frustration
Hello:

I have really not experience with the uart version of the interface. if I well remember, the schematic is only one wire different from the Manolator non Xtal version.

You can try to burn this non Xtal version of the firmware, then change the cable that is different. Then go to masterpeace.free.fr and download the masterpeace software.

This last masterpeace version includes a new dll to try to adjust the delays needed by the parallel port due the different CPUs speeds.

Let me know what you get, good luck.

PS also I have a new verion of Manolator software that uses this new dll but is not released to the public yet cause is not deeply tested, let me know if you want I send you.

cheers

Re: frustration
hi
thanks for your reply. i changed to the non-uart non-Xtal version of the hardware, burned the chip with the correct firmware and tried Masterpeace.

the software looks great! the little computer i have will only do 800x600 though, so i can't use it. i did try the older software again with no result.

so it seems like my my new version of the dongle will still not send any data - i've checked the wiring over and over and over - i used to think i was fairly competent at DIY electronics, but i guess not. wow ...

if you can send me the untested version of manolator software i will try it.

all best,
b
